Woerschach is a municipality with 1174 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the Enns Valley in Styria in the district court and Liezen Liezen.

Geography

Woerschach extends over an area of ​​42.91 km ² and is bordered on the north by Upper Austria. In the north of the municipal territory and the eastern foothills of the Dead Mountains run.

The Hochmölbing is the highest elevation in the municipality ( 2336 m). Other notable mountains are the Tausing (1822 m), the Mittleremölbing (2300 m), the Kleinmölbing (2100 m), the Bärenfeuchtenmölbing (1770 m) and the Aicherlstein with 1180 m above sea level.

Coat of arms

The award of the municipality coat of arms was made with effect from 1 May 1992. Blazon (Coat of Arms description): " In blue under a golden cloud band in chief three golden tips, topped with a blue frosted golden bathing creators. "

Culture and sights

  • Wolkenstein Castle: The high medieval castle is located in Selva and is considered one of the best preserved fortresses in the Enns Valley.
  • Wörschacher Moor: The Moor Wörschacher is one of the largest surviving Moore of the Enns with an area of ​​2.5 km ² and is home to the rare corncrake.
  • The Wörschachklamm is a narrow canyon in the limestone to the Südabfällen of the Dead Mountains of the Enns Valley. The input ( and the beginning of the trail direction Wörschachwald ) located to the west beneath the ruins of Wolkenstein. Originally navigable route through the gorge was created by Gabriel Schally and opened to the public in August 1902. This system may be regarded as a pioneer performance. The wooden sculpture wildly romantic gorge, created by Tom O'Mally 2001, can be found directly behind the toll booth to the gorge.
  • It is also located near a donkey ranch where together with some donkeys and a llama is located.

Clubs

The sports club Woerschach Union has nearly 500 members. Almost every second inhabitant is registered as a member. The sections are ladies gymnastics, football, curling, tennis, table tennis and winter sports.
