Yigal Cohen-Orgad

Yigal ( Yigal ) Cohen- Orgad ( born August 30, 1937 in Tel Aviv) is an Israeli politician and former Finance Minister.

Life

After attending a religious primary school ( elementary school ) and high school in Tel Aviv, he completed a degree in economics and education at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Already at this time he joined the Herut in and the closely affiliated youth association " B'nai Etzel ", which later united with the Betar. After graduation, he was 1962 employees of the Ministry of Finance Economic Planning Authority, before he founded a company for business planning and advisory itself. In 1967 he left the Herut and was for some time a member of the party of the free center ( Merkaz Hofshi ), before returning to Herut, the Chairman of the Economic Council he was. His political career began with election as a member of the Knesset, in which he until November 21, 1988 represented the interests of Herut within the Likud on 13 June 1977, most recently served as Chairman of the Group of Herut. As a parliamentarian, he was one of the 23 Likud members who voted against the Camp David agreement and called for an evacuation of Palestinians from the occupied territories.

On October 18, 1983, he was appointed as successor to the retiring Joram Aridor of Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir of the Treasury, and held this office until September 13, 1984.
