Yvan Goor

Yvan Goor, also Ivan Goor, ( born November 30, 1884 in Verviers, † March 20, 1958 in Liège ) was a Belgian bicycle and motorcycle racer.

Career

Cycling

Yvan Goor began on the initiative of his father with the cycling; this was also his manager and supervisor: " If Dad Goor is not a very strict father, he did not allow his son but the slightest that upon which the modern racers lay claim, although it usually will give them to destruction. " When Goor on pacemaker race concentrated, the father acted as pacemaker. In a race in Magdeburg in 1906 Goor crashed sen. heavy and fell out for the rest of the season.

Twice, in 1910 and 1911, was Yvan Goor Belgian champion stayer, in the years 1908, 1912 and 1914, he finished each ranked second. 1921 ended Goor his career as a professional racing driver, after he was unable to repeat his earlier successes after the end of World War II. As a member of the "RC Pesant Club Liégeois " he made himself strong for a relief fund for cyclist.

Motorcycle Racing

In 1924, at the age of 40 years, Yvan Goor turned successfully to the motorcycle sport. Twice he became European Champion in the 175 cc class: In 1930, he prevailed on a DKW ARE 175 in domestic Spa -Francorchamps against the British Eric Fernihough and in 1934 won the Belgians on Benelli at the Circuit van Drenthe in Assen, Netherlands, the EM - run, which was held in the context of X. Dutch TT, before his countrymen " Well Dick " and Maurice van Geert. In 1931, he was also behind Fernihough European vice-champion on a 175er DKW. In 1937 won Yvan Goor - nicknamed " Bobby" - at the age of 53 years for the third and at the same time last time a Belgian championship.
