Ze'ev Sherf

Zeev Sherf (Hebrew זאב שרף, dt: Se'ew Scherf; * April 21, 1906 in Bukovina, † 18 April 1984) was an Israeli politician and minister.

Life

After moving to Israel in 1925, he was active in the Marxist- Zionist movement Poale Zion and one of the founders and leaders of Socialist Youth. As such, he was also the organizer of youth camps in Warsaw. In the 1930s he was secretary of the Central Committee (CC ) of the Ha'Poel, the Workers Sports Federation the Histadrut. During the Second World War, he was between 1940 and 1944 employees of the command of the Haganah. After the war, he was initially 1945-1947 Secretary of the Political Department of the Jewish Agency and then for some time secretary of the position of the committee that prepared the establishment of an administrative apparatus for a state was founded.

After the establishment of Israel, he was from 1948 to 1957 secretary of the governments of Prime Minister David Ben Gurion and Moshe Scharet. Subsequently, he worked the Ministry of Finance and as such responsible for the government revenue.

His political career began with the election of deputies of the Knesset on November 22, 1965, where he represented the interests of Avodah until 21 January 1974. On November 22, 1966, he was appointed by Prime Minister Levi Eshkol as Minister of Trade and Industry and has held this office until 15 December 1969. At the same time he was on August 5, 1968 to December 15, 1969 Minister of Finance. Under Eshkol's successor, Golda Meir, he was thereafter until March 10, 1974 Minister of Housing.
