List of dams and reservoirs in Germany

The List of dams and reservoirs in Germany shows a selection in Germany befindlicher dams and pre Perren and reservoirs, dams and flood retention basins.

The number of dams in Germany is a matter of definition. What is a dam to regulate the water laws of the Länder. A special case arises for Eder and Diemeltalsperre operated as the only German dams in property management by the Water and Shipping Administration of the Federation. In the ICOLD ( International Commission on Large Dams ) registers about 311 German dams are listed that meet the ICOLD criterion for large dams, there are many more smaller. Therefore, it is only an incomplete, alphabetical list from which the area and volume of reservoirs is evident.

Dams and reservoirs at a glance

The alphabetically sorted in the output view by name table is sortable by clicking on the icons in the column headers. Some explanations and shortcuts to understanding the table can be found below.

Notes

Explains how are alphabetically sorted by column headings some info on each column contents ( for abbreviations used in the table below in paragraph abbreviations ):

  • Construction time: Year of construction and end of construction Note: Specifying the annual figures varies in the literature, because there the data of known fixed points such as the start of planning, the first sod, commissioning, completion or official dedication are often not specified.
  • State / countries: German / s state / country in which / where the water is
  • Watercourses (sometimes there is only a dry riverbed specified): is dammed up, initiated or turned pumptes ( in the upper basin ) main ( free-flowing ) waters, forming the reservoir, the reservoir or flood retention basins
  • Crown height: ( Maximum ) Height of the dam over foundation bed ( GRUESO, if known, otherwise water or bottom ) in meters (m). The value in bold indicates the highest shut-off in Germany. Note: Specifying the crown height varies greatly in the literature because authors call the reference point of their altitude rarely.
  • Crown length: Length of the dam in meters (m). The value in bold indicates the longest crown length in Germany.
  • Name: Name of the object
  • Type of use: The usage is sorted alphabetically and listed in the table in parentheses if it is of minor importance.
  • Reservoir area: Water surface with full back in square kilometers (km ²). The value in bold indicates the area, the largest reservoir in Germany.
  • Reservoir volume: Full back - storage space (also called normal storage space, not to be confused with the total storage space, which is called in individual cases when the full back - storage space is unknown or not yet researched ) in million cubic meters (mcm ). The value in bold indicates the highest-volume reservoir in Germany. Note: The full back - storage is the storage space when it reaches the level of the spillway and the total storage space that is at extreme high water when the dam very strong overflows.
