Roman Catholic Diocese of Aitape

The Diocese of Aitape (Latin: Dioecesis Aitapensis ) is a location in Papua New Guinea Roman Catholic diocese based in Aitape. It is located in the province of Sandaun in the northwestern part of Papua New Guinea.

History

Pope Pius XII. founded with the Apostolic Constitution Ad latius prolatandam on May 15, 1952, the Apostolic Prefecture of Aitape annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate of Central New Guinea. With the Apostolic Constitution Laetissimi sempervirens it was collected on 11 November 1956 to the Apostolic Vicariate.

A part of the territory it lost on September 13, 1963, the Apostolic Prefecture of Vanimo. On November 15, 1966, was charged with the Apostolic Constitution Laeta incrementa to the diocese.
