Roman Catholic Diocese of Goroka

The Diocese of Goroka (Latin: Dioecesis Gorokanus ) is a location in Papua New Guinea Roman Catholic diocese based in Goroka. It includes the province of the Eastern Highlands Province.

History

Pope John XXIII. founded with the Apostolic Constitution propheticus vox on 18 June 1959 the Vicariate Apostolic of Goroka annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate Alexis harbor.

With the bull Laeta incrementa it was collected on 15 November 1966 bishopric, which was the Archdiocese of Madang assumed as suffragan. On March 18, 1982, was part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Mount Hagen. On June 8 of the same year it lost part of its territory in favor of the establishment of the diocese Kundiawa.
