Roman Catholic Diocese of Bougainville
The Diocese of Bougainville (Latin: Dioecesis Buganvillensis ) is a location in Papua New Guinea Roman Catholic diocese based in Bougainville.
History
The Diocese of Bougainville was on 23 May in 1898 by Pope Leo XIII. cessions of territory from the Apostolic Vicariate Neupommern built as Apostolic Prefecture German Solomon Islands. On January 21, 1904, the Apostolic Prefecture German Solomon Islands was renamed Northern Solomon Islands in Apostolic Prefecture.
The Apostolic Prefecture of Northern Solomon Islands was on May 31, 1930 Pope Pius XI. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Cum in praefectura Apostolic Vicariate. The Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Solomon Islands announced on June 11, 1959 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Apostolic Vicariate of Western Solomon Islands.
On November 15, 1966, the Vicariate Apostolic of Northern Solomon Islands was by Pope Paul VI. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Laeta incrementa to the diocese and renamed Diocese of Bougainville. It was the Archdiocese of Rabaul is a suffragan.
