The ski jump Erdinger Arena located on the eastern outskirts of Oberstdorf below the formerly eponymous Shadow Mountain. History

A first ski jump ( ski jump on the slopes ), there was already in Oberstdorf 1909. Reached there, the hill record was 22 m ( Bruno Biehler ). The terrain was not ideal for a ski jump partly because of the strong sunlight. The short run-up and the limited distances prompted the Ski Club Oberstdorf together with the Sports Committee of the traffic and Kurverein for a site for a more modern re-construction to look for. The easternmost of Oberstdorf area at the foot of shadow mountain seemed well suited, because the place was mostly in the shade and the property also belonged to the community.

1925-1941

On December 27, 1925, the Schattenbergschanze newly built by the architect Hans Schwendiger could be opened. As early as 1930 was for the German Championships and 1936 for the qualifying competitions for the Olympic Winter Games in Garmisch -Partenkirchen increases the hill. 1946-1986

The reopening took place after the reconstruction on 1 January 1946. On January 4, 1953, jumping in the Four Hills Tournament took place on the Schattenbergschanze for the first time. 2004-2010

The brewery Erdinger signed a ten-year contract for the naming sponsorship of the sports facility. This form of sponsorship, which is only known from soccer stadiums or large sports halls, represents a novelty in international ski whereas the contract is intended to cover a financing gap of € 150,000, which gives the operator company annually by the reconstruction of the plant. While the Nordic World Ski Championships 2005, however, the stadium was not allowed to be called Erdinger Arena. Because of the conflict of interests with other sponsors from the brewing industry, the World Championships and the FIS Skiweltverband financially supported, the sports facility was referred to during the World Championships as World Cup Ski Jumping Arena Oberstdorf. In November 2010 it was decided that the 100 - meter hill is rebuilt in 2011.

From 2011

From 28 March 2011 to October 2011 was the old 100 - converted to the new 106- meter hill. The new K -95 jump should be finished in November, but the new ski jump was completed just a month earlier. On 21 October 2011, the new K -95 ski jump with the German women's national team, the B-team of the Nordic Combined and Oberstdorf student athletes was inaugurated. Others

Martin Schmitt was the first jumper, who succeeded three times in succession to win on the big Schattenbergschanze. He decided in 1998-2000, the opening event of the Four Hills Tournament for themselves. On the converted Schattenbergschanze now able to Janne Ahonen only three times in succession the victory.
