110th United States Congress#Members

Each state elects two senators in the Senate of the United States. By 1913, the senators were determined by the parliaments of the individual states. From 1913 required the 17th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that Senators are elected directly by the population of each state.

The 110th Senate went back to the Senate election on 7 November 2006. He held its inaugural meeting on 3 January 2007.

Party system

After the 2006 election the Republican faction of the Democratic group 49 and consisted of 51 members. The Senator Bernie Sanders belongs to no party, but was a member of the Democratic Group. Joe Lieberman drew as an independent candidate in the Senate, after he had lost the internal party Democratic primary in Connecticut, but remained a member of the Democratic Party and was a member of the Group of Democrats.
