1922–23 PCHA season

The season 1922/23, was the twelfth regular season of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association ( PCHA ). Masters were the Vancouver Maroons.

Mode

In the regular season, the three teams completed each 29 to 30 games. The top two teams then met in return match against each other for the title, the better goal of both games was crucial. In the regular season the league played in the same game plan with teams from the Western Canada Hockey League. For a win, each team was given two points, a draw one point and at a defeat.

Course of the season

After the PCHA champion initially had to play in a qualifier against the champions of the Western Canada Hockey League since the previous year for the Stanley Cup before it went against the champions of the National Hockey League, there was a further rapprochement between the two leagues, as they are now a scheduled plan introduced. This was accompanied by an adjustment of the rules of the PCHA to that of the two competing leagues NHL and WCHL. Among other things, the position of the rover was abolished, thereby reducing the number of players per team of seven to six. The games between PCHA and WCHL ended with 15:9 victories in favor of the PCHA. In the PCHA playoffs to Vancouver sat with 5:3 goals through against Victoria. Both teams had changed their names in Maroons ( Vancouver ) and Cougars (Victoria ) before the season.
