1913–14 PCHA season

The season 1913/14, was the third regular season of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association ( PCHA ). Masters were the Victoria Aristocrats.

Mode

In the regular season, the three teams completed each between 15 and 16 games. The winner after the regular season was champion. For a win, each team was given two points, a draw one point and at a defeat.

Course of the season

Before the season Frank Patrick was named the new league president. Important innovations were the introduction of three equal zones of the pitch, separated by blue lines, as well as allow the forward pass in the neutral zone. Known New Items from the NHA were Dubbie Kerr and Didier Pitre. With Frank Nighbor ( Vancouver ) and Lester Patrick ( Victoria) fell two leading players due to a broken hand or a broken arm from the end of January. At the time when Lester Patrick, who was coach of the team from Victoria at the same time, reported the Aristocrats with 4:5 wins a negative balance on, but won on his return all remaining six games and were still masters. Top scorer of the league with 32 points was Cyclone Taylor, the top scorer with 23 goals was Tommy Dunderdale.

Stanley Cup Challenge

As PCHA champion Victoria Aristocrats were allowed to attend the first team this league to play for the Stanley Cup. There they faced the Toronto Blueshirts of the National Hockey Association, where they lost in a best - of-five series with a sweep. Previously also the leaders had forgotten officially challenge their opponents, so that a victory for the Aristocrats would have been possible in any case not recognized.
