Frank Nighbor

Frank Nighbor ( born January 26, 1893 in Pembroke, Ontario, † April 13, 1966 ) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played from 1923 to 1937 for the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League.

Career

As a center who could convince both offensively and defensively, he played successfully in 1912 at the Toronto Blue Shirts. He moved to the West Coast and was able to win the Stanley Cup in 1915 with the Vancouver Millionaires. When the NHL went to its first season, Frank Nighbor was already 24 years old. Now in Ottawa he could win the Stanley Cup with the Senators in 1920, 1921, 1923 and 1927, four additional times. Although he excelled in the offensive, his particular strength lay in the role of a defensive striker. When the NHL introduced personal honors, he was both the Hart Memorial Trophy first winner, as well as in the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, which he was still personally presented by the wife of Canada's Governor, Lady Byng. His fans called him the "Flying Dutchman " and the " Pembroke Peach". In 1929 he moved to Toronto, where she completed but after a half season of his career.

In 1947 he was honored with induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
