1917–18 PCHA season

The season 1917/18 was the seventh regular season of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association ( PCHA ). Masters were the Vancouver Millionaires.

Team changes

The following changes were made before the start of the season:

Mode

In the regular season, three teams each completed 18 games. The top two teams then met in return match against each other for the title, the better goal of both games was crucial. For a win, each team was given two points, a draw one point and at a defeat.

Course of the season

Because of Canada's entry into the war in the First World War, the League for a few good players feared to have available, as some players of the PCHA had joined the Canadian armed forces. However, since the Spokane Canaries were resolved before the season, has succeeded in retaining enough quality players for the remaining three teams get together. The championship was finally decided for the first time in two playoff games between the top two finishers. There, the Vancouver Millionaires put 3-2 goals through against the last year's champion Seattle Metropolitans, which Barney Stanley scored the winning goal in a 1-0 success for Vancouver in Game 2.

Stanley Cup Challenge

To the Stanley Cup were the Vancouver Millionaires against the Toronto Arenas of the National Hockey League newly founded, which they lost in a best - of-five series with 2:3 victories. The decisive goal in a 2-1 victory for Toronto in game five had achieved Corbett Denneny.
