1977 IBF World Championships
The first badminton world championship was held from 3 to 8 May 1977 in Malmö, Sweden, instead. The finals were held on May 8, 1977. Zambia, the only African country at the start of its players moved back again, as athletes from New Zealand were at the start, which in turn talked sporting relations with the outlawed because of its policy of apartheid South Africa.
