1985–86 European Cup Winners' Cup

The European Cup Winners 'Cup 1985/86 was the 26th playout of the competition of European Football Cup Winners' Cup. 31 club teams participated, including 26 domestic cup winners and 5 losing cup finalists (Galway United, Fram Reykjavík, CS Universitatea Craiova, Tatabányai Bányász SC and Bangor City). Bulgaria reports no team, there was no Cup Winners Cup after the cancellation of the endgame. Clubs from England were excluded after the disaster of Heysel indefinitely from participation, so that the FC Everton could not defend his title.

From Germany were DFB Cup winners Bayer 05 Uerdingen, from the GDR fdgb Cup winner Dynamo Dresden, from Austria ÖFB Cup Winner SK Rapid Wien and from Switzerland cup winners FC Aarau at the start.

The final at the Stade Municipal de Gerland Lyon won Dynamo Kiev 3-0 against Atlético Madrid. It was after winning the 1974 /75 ( also with a 3-0 final victory there against Ferencvaros Budapest ), the second title in this competition for the club from Kiev.

Scorers were next to Frank Lippmann Dynamo Dresden, the three " Soviets " Igor Belanow, Oleg Blokhin and Alexander Sawarow from the title holder Dynamo Kiev with five gates.

Mode

The participants played as usual in pure Cup mode with return games the winner. Was there after two games Torgleichstand, the number of away goals scored decided ( away goals ). Was also equal in number to an extension took place in the return game in which was also the away goals rule. Ruled by the end of the extension is still a tie, a penalty shoot-out was performed. The final was decided on one game at a neutral venue. If the score is level after extra time the winner would also have been determined in a penalty shootout.

First round

The first legs took place on 17./18./21. September and the return legs held on 2 October 1985.

2nd round

The first legs took place on October 23, the return matches on 6 November ( Red Star against Lyngby on 22 ) 1985.

Quarterfinals

The first legs were held on March 19, 1986 March 5, the return games.

The return match between Bayer 05 Uerdingen and Dynamo Dresden went down in football history as the miracle of the Grotenburg. After the 0-2 in the first leg and a 1:3 residue for half-time Uerdingen needed five more goals to move into the next round. After the Dresden goalkeeper Bernd Jakubowski for a foul by Wolfgang glitter could not continue the game and was replaced for the second half, it actually managed to Krefeldern yet to achieve six goals, but what the goalkeeper Jens ram was largely blameless.

Semifinal

The first legs took place on April 2, the return legs on April 16th place in 1986.
