2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup

The 18th FIFA U-20 World Cup (former name Junior World Cup ) took place in Colombia. This was decided by the FIFA Executive Committee on 27 May 2008 in Sydney ( Australia). Colombia won against the candidacy of Venezuela.

The World Cup matches will be played in eight cities:

Qualification

In the final competition of 24 teams competed, with 23 places were awarded in the individual U-19 Continental Championships. Host Colombia had already qualified for the finals.

The European body UEFA had six places. These were awarded at the U-19 European Championship 2010, which was held from July 30 to 18 in France. It qualified France, England, Austria, Spain, Croatia and Portugal. The Netherlands and Italy managed not to leap into the top six as a group last.

The Asian Football Association AFC were four starting positions. As a qualifying tournament, the U-19 Championship 2010, which was held in China from October 3 to 17 served. Here, North Korea, Australia, Saudi Arabia and South Korea qualified.

From the CONCACAF, the Football Association of North America and the Caribbean, four teams qualified. As the CONCACAF qualifying tournament served U- 20 Championship 2011. The African Football Association CAF had four starting places in this World Cup. As a qualifying tournament was the U-20 African Cup of Nations in 2011, which took place from 17 April to 1 May in Johannesburg, South Africa.

From the South American federation CONMEBOL four more teams qualified the hosts Colombia at the U -20 South American Championship soccer that until February 12, 2011 took place on 31 January in Peru. It qualified Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Ecuador.

The Oceania Football Confederation established their participants at the U- 20 Football Ozeanienmeisterschaft. This was held in New Zealand from 20 to 29 April 2011.
