The Monaco Grand Prix 2011 was held on 29 May at the Circuit de Monaco in Monte Carlo and was the sixth race of the Formula 1 2011 season.

Background

After the Spanish Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel led the drivers' championship with 41 points to 51 points ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Mark Webber before. Red Bull -Renault resulted in the constructors' championship with 47 points ahead of McLaren -Mercedes and 110 points ahead of Ferrari.

Pirelli introduced the drivers the soft tire compounds (yellow) and Super Soft ( red), as well as for wet conditions Intermediates (light blue ) and Full - Wets (orange ) are available. The tire compound Supersoft arrived in Monaco for the first time used.

Training

The first practice was held in Monaco usually takes place on Thursday. During the first free practice Vettel posted the fastest lap before Alonso and Nico Rosberg. Qualifying

In the first phase of qualifying Hamilton posted the fastest lap. The HRT pilots did not occur at the qualifying.
