Absolutely Fabulous

Absolutely Fabulous ( AbFab also ) is the title of a British sitcom starring Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders in the lead roles. The program is produced by the BBC and emerged from a sketch in Saunders ' comedy series French & Saunders (with Dawn French ). In 1992 the first season of Absolutely Fabulous with a total of six episodes. Meanwhile, five squadrons, as well as some series ideas ( The latest craze, 1996, Gay, 2002, White Box, 2004) rotated. 2011/2012 there are three more episodes, which are called specials, and thus a second comeback. The first episode was Christmas 2011, the second New Year 2012 aired in England. The third was broadcast at the 2012 Olympic Games on 23 July 2012. The BBC tried to persuade Saunders to write another Christmas special and a sixth season, which should start in 2013. However, Saunders tweeted that she is working on a film adaptation.

Because of the liberal representation of drug and alcohol consumption as well as little responsibly, disrespectful and often illegal behavior, the series won the world a very wide and loyal following, but also drew calls for censorship by various groups in coming.

The series is extremely popular in the UK because of the cynical formulation of their characters and imaginative scenarios, but also enjoys in the U.S. and France cult status. The concept is this not designed for the mainstream series of running gags and cameos ( British ) stars. In particular, the performances of the singer Lulu in several episodes of the series are to be emphasized here.

Action

All characters in the series are heavily oversubscribed and caricaturing cultural stereotypes: the main actors are the entrepreneur Edina Monsoon (Jennifer Saunders ) and Patsy Stone ( Joanna Lumley ). As members of the London upper class both have the financial resources to meet the respective fashion and lifestyle trends. An on-going topos in the character of Edina is the non -normative body, the Edina tries to get at through dieting. The slim Patsy focuses on the consumption of alcohol and cigarettes. The assistant in Edina PR company Bubble falls on at every performance by eccentric clothing and low expertise. Between Patsy and Saffron, originating from a previous marriage daughter Edina, often prevail emotional tension. Saffron is displayed with conservative values and morals and is often portrayed as a moral authority over Edina and Patsy.

Absolutely Fabulous often satirized current trends and fads or current events (for example, cocooning, Reality TV, Botox, etc. ), but also the often strained relationship between mother and daughter, and other family problems.
