Premiere ( now Sky ) used since 2003, the Nagravision encryption system of the company Kudelski, which was considered a sure first and could only be circumvented with the so-called card sharing method in which the required decoder key computed over an actually existing subscription and distributed via the Internet had to be. As of November 2005, the encryption could be circumvented with a special smart card. Against traders and buyers of this card went premiere legal. Later, the decryption was possible using a pure software emulator.

As of August 2008, Premiere introduced a new encryption system. In addition to a revised version of the previous system Nagravision Premiere also uses the NDS VideoGuard software of News Corp.. For the conversion, the software of the receiver have been progressively updated and issued new smart cards and eventually deactivated in October 2008, the old Nagravision encryption.

Shortly afterwards, a way was made public, with a portion of the premiere offering could be received without a valid subscription. However, the exploitation of this vulnerability required a large technical effort ( so had about the orientation of the satellite dish be changed) and has now been removed again.

The DFB Cup transfers Sky since the season 2008/2009. Showing all 63 games broadcast live and in the conference, selected games in HDTV. In addition, the draw of a game per season will take place as part of a Sky transmission. The contract with the DFB is valid until 30 June 2016.

Bundesliga

For the first time on March 2, 1991 - Eintracht Frankfurt won then with 4:3 against 1.FC Kaiserslautern - transferred Premiere once a week a top match of German Bundesliga live and built the reporting over the years ever further.

With the start of the 2000/01 season premiere system was the first live all matches of the Bundesliga.

In December 2005, up to now not yet come into manifestation subsidiary of the cable operator Unity Media arena prevailed in the tender for the TV rights to the Bundesliga for the seasons 2006 /07 to 2008/ 09. Premiere was the first time in a long time without live coverage of the German Elite class there. Background of the assignment of rights to arena was that the then CEO of Premiere, Georg Kofler, was of the opinion, further growth of the German pay- TV market is only possible if the coverage of the Bundesliga on Free TV on Saturday late in the evening after 22 clock be moved. However, the German football league balked, despite the higher bid, against the commandment of Premiere. For one, it was feared huge slump in sponsorship revenue if the jersey and banner advertising would no longer be present before an audience of millions in the sports show on Saturday. This hypothesis was supported among others by a report that includes the ARD - the home of sports show - had previously been commissioned. Secondly, the DFL had to face the public and political pressure, just before the World Cup in their own country, for which the Bundesliga from the public sector had also get built -art stadiums, not " disappear" the Bundesliga in the pay- TV. Premiere was - in contrast to the novice arena - not willing to offer a significant amount for the old model, including the sports show on the eve.

However arena faced as a result of technical, organizational and ultimately financial problems. So you could, although the long-term service Plazamedia that was active even for Premiere, Win as producers of shows and a transponder on the satellite Astra rent, but the cable distribution turned out for the cable operator Unity Media as the biggest problem dar. So you could not agree about the largest cable operators and cable rivals Germany on a distribution. The distribution in this network could be secured only at the last minute through a cooperation with the current rights holder premiere, which thus also in the cable again had his foot in the Bundesliga door.

In IPTV debut in this period produced the Bundesliga rights offer of Deutsche Telekom. Even if you de facto sent in camera, Premiere had thus found a way to maintain the extensive and expensive Bundesliga editing, which turned out to be crucial after only one year.

After the Federal Cartel Office had rejected a further, beyond the cable network from cable Germany cooperation of arena and Premiere, at the premiere of the channel arena all customers at all distribution channels would be able to offer, Unity Media found himself no longer able, the project arena in this weiterzubetreiben form. The manifold problems had ensured that arena fell well below the expectations subscription and retract horrendous losses threatened that exceeded even the worst fears of the cable manager.

For this reason, transferred arena - this time with the blessing of the Federal Cartel - from the 2007/ 08 season, his rights to the Bundesliga in Premiere, which thus had rights holder of the Bundesliga again. From this point, again produced only premiere the Bundesliga.

Since the beginning of the 2009/10 season Sky is for four years again directly and exclusively. Possession of the TV rights via cable, satellite and web TV on the Internet At the same time, a new game plan was introduced, which increased by up to nine kick-off times in the two national leagues the program area of the Bundesliga in the program of Sky clearly.

On April 17, 2012 Sky received by the DFL for four years, all pay -TV rights for the Bundesliga from the Season 2013 / 14th This one was against the German Telekom with LIGA total!, Which previously held the IPTV and mobile rights. For Sky pays record sum of average 485.7 million euros per season. From the 2013/14 season Sky also sends all Games of the two national leagues in HD.

UEFA Champions League

In September 2005, the company acquired the free-TV and pay-TV rights to the UEFA Champions League for three years starting from the season 2006/2007. This step caused a stir among the football fans and clubs, the risk of affecting the timely transmission in free television. The fear proved in retrospect to be unfounded. Premiere shone under the title of Champions TV in a program window in Sat.1 continue per round, a match live on free television from.

For the 2009/10 season Sat.1 acquired the " Free TV " rights for one game per week directly by UEFA, Sky acquired the " pay TV " rights to all games. For the first time all the games of the last qualifying round are included in the package of rights that has since the usual extent - will also be broadcast by Sky - all the games live and in conference.

Also for the 2012/13 season until mid-2015 Sky won the rights to broadcast the UEFA Champions League. The rights relating to the live and delayed transmission of all UEFA Champions League matches and on the Tuesdays and Wednesdays broadcast highlights shows. Sky is on its own Champions League program format in the form of a live broadcast for this season. At each UEFA Champions League matchday from 19:30 clock to midnight, the presenters lead in the Sky studio in Ismaning by the mission in which alternating guests participate as well as private studio guests.

The " Free TV " broadcast rights switched from the 2012/13 season until mid-2015 Sat.1 for ZDF. The scope of broadcasting rights is identical to the recovery package, which Sat.1 previously held roughly. ZDF can transfer a live encounter per game week, as that takes place on a Saturday final of the competition and the UEFA Super Cup. In contrast to the program structure of the private television station ZDF Sat.1 shows after the actual transfer directly and without commercial interruption, the summary has taken place in parallel batches.

In December 2013 succeeded Sky to extend the broadcasting rights to the season 2017/18. Sky secured the rights to the live broadcasts and highlights across all distribution channels. Customers could the games on TV, the web, see an iPhone or iPad, or on the Xbox360. 128 of 146 encounters may be broadcast exclusively on Sky channels.

The ZDF was to transfer as part of the " Free TV " broadcast for the same period the right to up to 18 games per season, including the knock-out rounds with German participation, finals and UEFA Super Cup. If, after the group stage, only a German team be represented in the competition, the ZDF would have the opportunity to show these games even on a Tuesday night for the first time.

UEFA Europa League

Since September 2009, transfers Sky selected matches of the UEFA Europa League - including all games of the German and Austrian clubs - live. After every matchday detailed summaries of the games as well as broadcast brief summaries of the remaining games will be shown after the encounters. From the quarter- finals, all matches will be broadcast live individually or in the conference.

The rights to live and time-shifted transmission of all matches of the Europa League, Sky has also secured for the period from 2012 to 2015. Since 2012, Sky also features additional rights to the UEFA Europa League by being able to select a second live game on an exclusive basis.

The free-TV rights to the UEFA Europa League received the ProSiebenSat.1 TV Germany GmbH, Thursdays a match per day cable broadcasting live each of their program channel one.

Formula 1

From the Grand Prix of Germany 1996 in Hockenheim to all races will be broadcast live, first on DF1, since the Grand Prix of Austria in 1999 until the merger in parallel on Premiere. From the very beginning, the commentators Jacques Schulz and former racing driver Marc Surer, additional commentators were temporarily Burkhard Nuppeney and Heinz Prüller. Commercial breaks there at the Formula 1 broadcasts just before the start and after the finish. But since the 2013 season about 60 seconds Split - screen advertising per race are planned. By 2009, the entire weekend was transferred to several freely selectable channels, since 2010 this applies only for qualifying and the race itself all previews for the races in the 2012 season were not as in free free TV competition from RTL of the track but exclusively from the studio in Munich produced. In addition, the race from Bahrain, Singapore, Japan, Korea and India were not live on site commented by Jacques Schulz and Marc Surer of the track, but only from a Kommentatorenbox from Munich. As of the 2013 season took over from Jacques Roos Sascha Schulz, who resigned for personal reasons as a commentator.

In addition, Sky showed at irregular intervals the series The best Grand Prix. These were to compilations of older Grand Prix that have been newly annotated by Marc Surer and Jacques Schulz. First race of the 80s were seen in which Marc Surer had participated even after several years of World Championship races came to 1995 to ( ahead of Michael Schumacher's move to Ferrari), later there were also episodes from the 2000s. The series disappeared after the name change to Sky at first, but dipped again in 2010. Unlike the premiere race at that time produced in 4:3 were cropped to 16:9, so that parts of the top and bottom of the frame were missing. Since 2013, this series is no longer aired.

Prior to the conversion of Premiere Sky was in Formula 1 behind the commercial football as the second most popular sport in the premiere sports rights portfolio. The priority increased from 2009 but significantly. The current contract, which was renewed on January 30, 2013, runs until the end of season 2015.

Productions and involvement in the film industry

In the early years of premiere under the direction of CLT -UFA and CANAL , there was unencrypted productions such as zapping and Kalkofes focusing screen. Similarly, the company also acted as co- producer of television movies, you cooperated mostly with ARD and RTL. These films were then seen in front of the free-TV premiere first at Premiere. After the takeover of the church renounced premiere at other film productions. A fresh foray into the world of co-production, which was initiated under Georg Kofler, was canceled due to the loss of the Bundesliga rights and therefore the incoming financial problems. The U.S. series Over There remained the last co-production premiere. While Premiere in the sequence away from the sports program has waived any productions and even his daily or weekly Magazine Sky Magazine and Sky Lounge was produce by foreign companies, Sky provides at least these shows now back on their own here. In January 2011 it was announced that Sky is the new main sponsor of the prize Jupiter, the magazine Cinema out there.
