AFC President's Cup
Final
The AFC President's Cup ( engl.: AFC President's Cup ) is after the AFC Champions League and AFC Cup the third most important Asian club football competition which was organized by the Asian Football Confederation ( AFC) and first held in 2005.
The President's Cup is the third stage in the system of the Asian team competitions, below the AFC Champions League and the AFC Cup. The establishment of these three competitions took place as a consequence of the by AFC President Mohamed bin Hammam excited Action Plan Vision Asia, with which you wanted to respond to the very uneven development of the national associations of Asia.
Qualification for the Asian continental competitions is different than in Europe, where theoretically every country has the opportunity to participate with at least one team ( after recovering from qualification) of the UEFA Champions League. In Asia, making the 14 " most mature " football nations ( among them the " great powers " Saudi Arabia, Japan, South Korea and Iran ) with up to four teams per nation's Champions League among themselves, the next countries ( footballing " Central Powers " so to speak) compete with each one to two representatives in the AFC Cup.
The President's Cup is finally intended as a comparison for footballing "developing countries" that are not grown financially and organisationally integrated into a larger tournament. Therefore, the competition to the eleven countries each send their masters, even within a few days at a fixed location and not held throughout the year with home and away games. Up to and including 2007, the tournament was held with eight teams.
