The Allaichowski ulus (Russian Аллаиховский улус, also Аллаиховский район, rajon Allaichowski; Yakut улууһа Аллайыаха, Allajyacha uluuha ) is one of the 34 Ulusse ( Rajons ) of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia ) in the north of the Russian Far East Federal District.

Geography

Ulus is located in the north of the republic on the coast of the East Siberian Sea, a marginal sea of the Arctic Ocean, in the East Siberian lowlands. It is named after the 563 km long river Allaicha.

The Ulus has an area of about 107,300 km ², slightly less than a third of Germany. The vegetation consists mostly of tundra, no small surfaces are even cold desert.

With the support of WWF bird sanctuary Katalyk was established on some islands in the delta of the Indigirka, not least to improve the living conditions of the cranes in East Asia.

Demography

The population had more than tripled from 1939 to 1989, but has since fallen back to about twice the control value:

The population is almost two-thirds of members of indigenous ethnic groups, with a slightly increasing trend. The proportion of Evens and Yukagirs is thus the third-tallest all Ulusse of the Republic.
