Amathay-Vésigneux

Amathay - Vésigneux is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Amathay - Vésigneux is located on 671 m above sea level, about ten kilometers south-southeast of Ornans, 27 km southeast of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The double municipality extends in the Jura, in a small valley on the southeastern edge of the plateau of Amancey, at the northern foot of the Bois du Désert.

The area of ​​12.13 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area occupied by the basin of Amathay, which is on average 660 m. It is drained by the Ruisseau de Raffenot northeast of Loue. In the north of the municipality of soil ranges on the undulating plateau of the plateau of Amancey ( to 719 m). It is mainly composed of meadow land, but also has some larger areas of forest on. To the south, the municipality's area extends to the wooded ridge of the Bois du Désert, which forms a geological- tectonic anticline in respect and is oriented towards the west southwest- east-northeast, according to the strike of the Jurassic in this region. Here the highest elevation of Amathay - Vésigneux is achieved with 921 m.

The double municipality consists of the villages Amathay (670 m) and Vésigneux (660 m) in the basin at the northern foot of the Bois du Désert. Neighboring communities of Amathay - Vésigneux are Chantrans in the north, Longeville in the east, and Évillers Septfontaines in the south and Levier and Reugney in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Amathay and Vésigneux belonged to the dominion Maillot. The parish church is mentioned in documents in the 13th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached both villages with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Since the time of the French Revolution Amathay and Vésigneux form a double community. Today Amathay - Vésigneux is a member of the 24 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Pays d' Ornans.

Attractions

The present church Saint -Martin was built in Vésigneux new 1874-1875 and 1996, the last time restored. Outside the church is a Calvary of the 15th century.

Population

With 151 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Amathay - Vésigneux is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1896 426 persons were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1980s.

Economy and infrastructure

Amathay - Vésigneux was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and animal husbandry, as well as by the forestry village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares of the Department of Road 32, which runs from Amancey by Lods. Further road links exist with Septfontaines and Chantrans.
