Anni sacri

Anni sacri is an encyclical (12 March 1950) by Pope Pius XII. , Which he published in the Holy Year 1950. He demanded of his brothers, a " program to combat global atheism."

Holy Year

By way of introduction, he praised the great success of the recently launched by the Holy Year and praises the pilgrims who had come from all parts of the world to St. Peter. He expressed his hope that the pilgrims would come in even greater numbers to Rome and the desire to bring peace in their prayers expressed.

Dissemination of atheism

Pius XII. lamented the world turning away from religion and the expanding atheism. He condemned the press releases which infringes the religions in many parts and would cause damage to young people. Incorrect and false promises, the people were being deceived, it would hatred, rivalry and riots provoked and fueled the decline of the economy. The Pope regretted that in some nations the rights of faith, the Church and the human nature would disregard and demanded that the truth, freedom and religion more respect must be paid by the civil authority.

Religion and Society

If, however, lacked the religion, wrote Pius XII. , Then no healthy society can develop, so be it during the Holy Year a priority task of the priests and of all his brethren to preach the true gospel and to advance the renewal of morality.

Exhortation

In his Exhortation, he called and encouraged all his brethren, to implore by a real crusade of prayers, the grace and consolation of God. Pius XII. called for March 26 public prayers, he himself would initiate prayer in St. Peter's Basilica and pray not only for the Catholic world, but implore the help of God for all people.
