Ards (borough)

Ards (Irish: An Aird ) is one of the 26 Districts in Northern Ireland. The District, whose territory lies in the traditional county of Down, was established in 1973 and has the status of a Borough. It lies on the east coast of Northern Ireland and surrounds the bay Strangford Lough. The District was named after the Ards Peninsula, which forms part of the District area. The head office is located in Newtownards. Other important towns in the Borough are Portaferry, Comber and Donaghadee.
