Austin Liato

Austin Chisangu Liato is a politician in Zambia.

Austin Liato was previously a member of the Pan-African Parliament, and since 1998 Vice- President of the Trade Union Congress of Zambia, the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions. In the election for President swe ZCTU he was defeated in 1998 only just. In 2000, he was accused of stealing and terminated at ZESCO, which had to be withdrawn later in subsequent payment of all salaries. He was Deputy Minister of Energy and hydropower development, which is not to moor in time. January 2005, he should be a minister for the Copperbelt, which, however, met with resistance and was revoked by President Levy Mwanawasa. It was early 2006, Minister of the Province Lusaka. He was appointed Deputy Minister for Labour and Social Affairs after the election in Zambia in 2006. He sits since 2001 for the United Party for National Development, which he was Deputy Chairman, and the constituency in the National Assembly of Zambia Kaoma, a choice of purchased votes are assumed. The UPND has therefore excluded him on 7 July 2003 together with Benny Tetamashimba. He then moved to the Movement for Multi Party Democracy and won again in 2006, the mandate in Kaoma.

Austin Liato is a son of Levy Mwanawasa and married to his daughter Miriam from her first marriage. His election in Kaoma was commented very critically.
