Baccarat

Baccarat ( German outdated: Castle Ambach ) is a French town with 4584 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Meurthe -et -Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Luneville, is the capital of the canton of baccarat and the seat of the municipal association Vallées du Cristal. The inhabitants of baccarat called Bachamois.

Baccarat is known for crystal glass, which is produced here since the 18th century.

Geography

The city lies between Luneville and Saint- Dié on the Meurthe, the valley widens here after emerging from the Vosges.

  • Église Saint- Remy, concrete church from 1957, which replaced a medieval, destroyed during the Second World War the church. Peculiarity is that the church is illuminated by 2000 crystal glass parts which are embedded directly into the concrete and the interior dive into a mystical light.
