Bart Zoet

Hubertus Balthazar "beard" Zoet ( born October 20, 1942 in Lisse, † May 13, 1992 ) was a Dutch road bicycle racer and Olympic champion.

As an amateur, Bart Zoet won numerous domestic races, including the eight- van Chaam. In 1964 he won at the Olympic Games in Tokyo together with Jan Pieterse, Evert Dolman and Gerben Karstens the gold medal in the team time trial. From 1965 to 1970 Zoet was professional, but could not establish themselves, although he was considered a great talent that was especially respected by his cycling colleagues. His greatest successes were in 1966 and 1967 respectively the third place at the Dutch championship in the individual pursuit on the track.

Zoet died in 1992 at the age of 49 years of a heart attack. The reason loneliness, bitterness and alcohol are accepted. 2002, a book was published about his life: Het Leven van Bart Zoet Zure (Dutch = The acidic life of Bart Zoet ) by Gijs Zandbergen.
