Bassing

Bassing ( German Bessingen ) is a commune with 127 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Château- Salins, to Canton Dieuze and the Communauté de communes du Kommunalverband Saulnois.

Geography

Bassing is located in the east of Metz Saulnois at an altitude 220-283 meters above sea level, the average height is 240 meters. The municipal area covers 6.3 km ² (630 acres ).

History

1257 the village was first mentioned as " Bessingen " documentary. Bassing 1594 belonged to belonged to Seigneurie Marimont -lès- Bénestroff. from 1698 it belonged to castellany Dieuze. From the 17th century to the French Revolution ( 1789-1799 ), there was a convention of the Pauline order on site. From 1790 to 1801 Bassing was the capital of a canton in the district Dieuze, then the canton was dissolved.

1793 Bassing was given the status of a municipality and in 1801 the right to local self-government in the wake of the French Revolution. It belonged from 1801 to 1871 to the former department of Meurthe, which was renamed in 1871 in Meurthe -et -Moselle. In 1871 the church was incorporated into the newly created National Rural Alsace-Lorraine by the German Empire due to territorial changes through the course of the German - French War ( 1870-1871 ). The National Rural Alsace-Lorraine existed until the end of World War I (1914-1918) and was subsequently dissolved. Bassing was at that time in the department of Moselle, this change was also maintained in 1918, when France was awarded Moselle again.

The coat of arms of the municipality is a compound of the coat of arms of Dieuze and Marimont because Bassing formerly belonged to their Kastellaneien. In the middle of the lance of the patron saint Mauritius ( Maurice) is shown. The heraldic right half is red with three silver rounded bands, the heraldic left half is silver with a red horizontal band. About the halves is a golden lance.

Bassing is the birthplace of the French chemist Antoine Béchamp ( 1816-1908 ).
