Bergamo–Albino light rail

The light rail Bergamo albino is a light rail line connecting the cities of Bergamo and Albino. It begins at the Bergamo railway station, traveling on the route of the existing until 1967 ferrovia della Valle Seraiana.

History

Already 1912-1953 the cities of Bergamo and Albino were connected by an overland tram, the wrong road space of the street between the two cities. She was meterspurig and with 600 V DC voltage electrified as the former urban tramway network of Bergamo.

In 1993, the Italian Parliament adopted a law that brought about the transfer of real estate and infrastructure of the Ferrovie della Valle Seraiana e della Valle Brembana in the province of Bergamo. The aim was to build a tram or metro network.

After several discussions, a modern tram ( metrotranvia ) proved to be the best solution. On 20 July 2000, the municipality and the province of Bergamo founded the company Tramvie Elettriche Bergamasche ( TEB). This should be the first tram line, called T1, plan and build - using the route of the former railway line.

The distance between Bergamo and Alzano Centro was inaugurated on 24 April 2009 and opened to traffic the following day. The long construction period agreed to by the bankruptcy of the construction company in charge and the collapse of a tunnel. The opening of the entire route until after Albino happened on June 10, 2009.

With the operation of the tram line, the TEB was entrusted by 2011. Following the entire public transport the province of Bergamo should be advertised.

Ridership

In the first year following the tram passenger numbers were achieved:

  • 2.3 million passengers in total;
  • 300 000 passengers a month during school hours;
  • 10000-11000 passengers on working days;
  • 4000 passengers on Sundays

Infrastructure

The line is a two-pronged overground rail line with a length of 12.5 km and 16 stops. The track is equipped with some with flat bottom rails and some with grooved rails and has a track gauge of 1435 mm.

The entire route is on a separate track body. The height level crossings are secured with light signals. The speed limit is 70 km / h, making an average cruising speed of 24.95 km / h is reached.

35 % of the route are designed as green track.

Rolling stock

The current fleet consists of 14 five-section low-floor articulated trams of type AnsaldoBreda Sirio. The interior was designed by Krizia, the exterior design by Pininfarina.

In addition, the tram service has a two-way vehicle maintenance and for auxiliary drives and a tram trailer for maintenance work on the track.

Schedule

On weekdays and on Saturdays outside school holidays, the line is operated at 15- minute intervals. During the rush hours on school days runs every five to ten minutes a train. Saturdays during the holidays and on Sundays and holidays a 30-minute clock will be offered.

The daily operating time is 6 to 22 clock.

99% of trips are less than 5 minutes late, 98 % less than 2 minutes.
