Billecul

Billecul is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Billecul is located on 837 m above sea level. M., about eleven kilometers east of the city Champagnole (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, on the plateau south of the Val de Mièges and east of the source of the Ain.

History

In the Middle Ages Billecul belonged to the rule Nozeroy. In the 17th century the population had to suffer from several outbreaks of plague. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population

With 36 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Billecul one of the smallest towns in the Jura. In the first half of the 20th century, the population had decreased significantly. Even until very recently, a further continuous decline was recorded.

Economy and infrastructure

Billecul was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and livestock village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector there are no jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares near a secondary road that leads from Nozeroy after Arsure- Arsurette. Further road links exist with La Favière and Fraroz.
