Bishop Green is between ox-head and snow mountain in the high valley of the White River Main in the Fichtelgebirge on the highway 303

History

The rule of the Lords of Hirschberg came in 1360 at the castle of the Counts of Nuremberg, later Margrave of Brandenburg- Bayreuth.

Already in 1536 a glass factory has been demonstrated. 1616 bought members of glassmaking family Greiner spent on the glassworks and led them to new heights.

As part of the now Prussian Hohenzollern Principality of Bayreuth in 1792 was Bishop Green from 1500 in the Frankish Empire circle. It was the Peace of Tilsit in 1807 and came to France in 1810 to the Kingdom of Bavaria. In the course of administrative reform emerged with the community of 1818, the current community. On 1 January 1976, the until then independent municipality Wülfersreuth was incorporated ( until 1875 Wilfer Reuth ), the above sea level is the highest village of Upper Franconia with 703 m.

Winter Sports in Bishop Green

The newly opened on 1 August 2007 Ochsenkopfschanze on the hill rock above the village has the athletic significance of Bishop Green grew. It is the international women's elite at a summer ski jumping competition of the FIS and the national teams of special and Springer combination of the German Ski Association (DSV ) for pre-season visits annually.
