Björn Sieber

Bjoern Sieber ( born March 5, 1989 in Egg in the Bregenzerwald, † 26 October 2012 in Black Mountain ) was an Austrian alpine skier. He was especially successful in the super combined. A graduate of Skihandelsschule Stams drove for the ski club of his place of residence Schwarzenberg in Vorarlberg.

Biography

His first FIS races contested Sieber in December 2004, the first podium finish followed in January 2006 in a slalom and the first victory in March 2009 in a giant slalom. In the European Cup, he went for the first time on 11 January 2008 at the Super -G in Hinterstoder at the start and immediately reached number 23 with their first points. The next month he won the bronze medal in the Super- G at the Junior World Championships in the Spanish Formigal.

In October 2008, Sieber injured in giant slalom qualifying rounds for the World Cup races in Sölden at the shoulder and was sidelined eight weeks. In January 2009 he returned to racing back in February, he came in sixth place in the giant slalom in Soldeu for the first time in a European Cup race in the top ten and in March he won at the Junior World Championships 2009 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, the silver medal in the giant slalom.

End of November 2009 stood Sieber as third in the giant slalom in Levi on the podium for the first time and two weeks later he celebrated in the giant slalom in San Vigilio his first victory. At the end of the 2009/10 season he finished third in the giant slalom standings. Because of its European Cup successes, he was allowed to go 13 December 2009 at the World Cup giant slalom in Val d'Isere at the start, however, different in the first round of. The first World Cup points he reached on January 29, 2010, with rank 27 in the first giant slalom in Kranjska Gora. The next day, he scored 23rd in the second giant slalom.

For the first time in the top 20 of a World Cup race went Sieber on January 14, 2011 15th place in the Super Combined in Wengen. At the World Championships in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, he raced in the super combined ( 13th place) and giant slalom ( No. 22 ), for which he has been nominated after the injury by Hannes Reichelt. His best World Cup result, he scored 26 February 2011 7th place in the super combination of Bansko. At the end of the season 2010/2011 he was Austrian Champion in the Super -G. After two years in the A-team Sieber was taken after the winter in the national team of the Austrian Ski Federation, but in 2012 returned to directly to the B-team. His best World Cup result of the season 2011/2012 was an eleventh place in the Super Combined in Wengen.

On October 26, 2012 Sieber died in a car accident in his home town of Black Mountain. His brother, who was driving the car, was seriously injured.
