Geography

Börtlingen belongs to the marginal zone of the metropolitan region of Stuttgart.

Geographical Location

Börtlingen is in the virgin forest in 334-498 meters altitude, about 8.5 km (about 6 km air- line) away from the county town of Göppingen.

Geology

Essentially Börtlingen lies on a black plate of the eastern Jura virgin forest. Between the bearings including Stubensandstein and the Black Jura plate is at Knoll marl ( calcareous clays ).

History

Börtlingen was first mentioned in documents in 1202. It was under long the monastery Adelberg. When this was dissolved during the Reformation in 1535, Börtlingen came under the rule of the Protestant monastery Office Adelberg. Börtlingen itself was the seat of a rod in this monastery office. With dissolution of the religious authorities in 1807 the place came to Oberamt Göppingen, the forerunner to the district.
