Brand (surname)

Brand is a German family name. He is among the 200 most common family name in Germany. Like the surname Brandt and Brant he is a derivation of the name Hildebrand or Hadebrand. These names were once so common, especially in northern Germany. From there, the name came fire in several regions of Germany. In southern Germany, often sat by the notation Brandl or Brantl. In addition to the interpretation as a patronymic fire is partly also a country of origin or dwelling place name, for example, to the derived from a fire, which was created by slash and burn. Early name occurrences are from Seinsheim ( 1343 ) and Frankfurt ( 1493 ) survived.
