State:

Federal highway 303 ( Abbreviation: B 303) runs from west to east, starting at the Federal Highway 7 west of Schweinfurt and ending on the border with the Czech Republic east of Schirnding. It leads through the eastern Lower Franconia and the entire Upper Franconia.

History

The original course of the national route 303 ran from Schweinfurt plantations, Hofheim in Franconia, Coburg, Mitwitz, Kronach, Selbitz to Hof and on about Rehau and Eger after midnight pond. In 1941, the portion of the courtyard about Eger after midnight pond by the national route 15 and it later replaced the section of creek dog (border) after midnight pond by the B 299. In the early 1950s the route of Marktrodach about Stadtsteinach Berneck, Marktredwitz and Arzberg was redefined after Schirnding as federal highway 303. This section was formerly the name Main valley road.

The middle part of the B 303 between plantations on Main and Tambach Coburg originally led by 14 villages. From the 1960s to 1990s in sections the path was laid for a total length of 49.7 kilometers east and therefore since has Ortsdurchfahrten in Oberelldorf and Tambach. Near Ebersdorf bei Coburg B 303 crosses since October 19, 2007 at the junction 10 of the new Federal Highway 73 (Nuremberg, Germany - Suhl ).

Fichtelgebirgshalle motorway

There were plans to rebuild the section Wirsberg - Eger to a four-lane " highway yellow ", the so-called " Fichtelgebirgshalle highway ". There, it should connect to the Czech expressway R6 to Prague. However, these plans are not pursued due to the expected high pollution, high construction costs and decreasing traffic figures since January 2009. In return, the existing B to be 303 expanded selectively.

Now to be begun between the junction Marktredwitz - West and the Czech border, as foreseen in the development plans for federal trunk roads, double track with four lanes. This is the result of a conversation between Interior Minister Herrmann, German Transport Minister Dr. Peter Ramsauer, State Secretary Willi Müller and Administrator Dr. Charles Doehler on 17 May 2010. Step one will be to further expand the already three-lane bypass Schirnding for which there is already building law.

The head of the construction office in Bayreuth had pleaded for it in early 2010 to reduce the connection of Schirnding Marktredwitz to three lanes. Interior Minister Herrmann presented clear, however, that the current development standard would be maintained with two lanes in each direction.

According to opponents of expanding the project reached new B303 only because in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan, because in the documents submitted incorrect figures for construction costs and maintenance were included. This error is, according to the opponents, despite several indications (2003, 2007), and although the leaders admitted the mistake and correction pledged to continue.

On 11 November 2010 the current changes in the demand plan for transport projects was announced by Transport Minister Peter Ramsauer. On the subject federal roads, he noted no changes in the demand plan. Since only a portion of the projects contained in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan may be funded, the Free State of Bavaria has to prioritize in the case of B 303. It is responsible for deciding whether the approximately 2 km already quasi -lane B to be 303 actually widened to four lanes in Schirnding (cost about 12 million euros ), and then another in the course about 14 miles to the A93 for approximately 52 million euros.

Usually meet nationwide for significantly more traffic at best mutually -lane roads ( Example B 169 or B 16). The current official traffic figures, measured at the two permanent counting on the B303 at Schirnding and Bishop Green, reiterate a traffic decline by: Schirnding When compared with 2009, but repeated traffic drop to approximately 4872 vehicles per day is observed. In Bischofsgruen - urchins, the figures are for three years constant at about 5500 vehicles per day. The truck traffic has declined at both census points since 2005; 19% in Bischofsgruen and 21% in Schirnding.

Fichtel Mountain Road

Is the name of a portion of federal highway 303 after the natural space Fichtelgebirge in northeast Bavaria. The section with the street name Fichtel Mountain Road begins at the highway exit of the A9 Berneck ( near Bayreuth ) and goes to the border at Schirnding ( Wunsiedel county ). Then runs at the foot of Kösseine - Luisenburg past Wunsiedel, Marktredwitz, Seußen, Arzberg and comes with Schirnding the state border to the Czech Republic. The road was expanded location immediately, without crossing or three lanes in different sections in the last decades; it has become a busy trunk road since the opening of the border in 1990.

History

For the first time in 1862 a road link between Berneck and Wunsiedel created, which was called Main valley road. The construction of the Fichtel mountain road was started as " Ostmarkstraße " in the Third Reich, the overall concept is not completed in its original form. It was planned to strengthen the Eastern Bavarian region in February 1934 a completely new block from court by the Bavarian Ostmark to Passau. Should be to achieve in this favored land the promotion of tourism through the connection to the industrial areas of Saxony and Thuringia. By planning the motorway Berlin- Munich route guidance was moved. Beginning of the Ostmarkstraße was now the motorway exit west Berneck with guided tour of the Fichtelgebirge, south of Marktredwitz over, over the stone forest to heritage village, pastures and continue towards Passau. Wunsiedel begun - From 1937, with the construction phase Berneck. 1941 had the work will be adjusted due to the war, which is why the section Safe Reuth stone forest heritage village was not realized, and even after the Second World War was no longer up for debate.
