Chaoyang District, Beijing

Chaoyang (Chinese朝阳 区, pinyin Chaoyang Qū ) is a municipality in the northeast of the Chinese capital Beijing.

Chaoyang has an area of 475 km ² and 2.29 million inhabitants ( as of 2000), making it the municipality with the second highest number of inhabitants.

Chaoyang diplomatic district is home to many embassies. The well-known bar and pub district Sanlitun located in Chaoyang.

Since 2009, Chaoyang takes part in the government campaign for civilized cities and districts. The slogan first used in English: Civilized Chaoyang. Magnificent with me! has now dropped back, the patrols of Public Order with red armbands, however, have increased in 2011.

Dashanzi Art District

The Dashanzi Art District ( 798 Art Zone ), in which the artist Ai Weiwei lives, is also located in the Chaoyang District.
