Christians - Democratisch en Vlaams (CD & V) listen to? / I ( German Christian- Democratic and Flemish) is a Christian democratic party in the Belgian part of the country Flanders.

Foundation

The first Catholic Party ( Katholieke Partij ) in Belgium in 1869 as Verbond van Katholieke Kringen s the Conservatieve Verenigingen (Association of Catholic circles and conservative associations ) was founded in 1869, a Catholic party in Belgium.

The Catholic lawyer and politician Charles, Count Woeste founded in 1869 the Catholic party in response to the growing anti-clericalism, especially on the part of the Belgian liberalism. From 1884 to 1918 the Catholic party was under the leadership of Charles Woeste an absolute majority in parliament and was in government.

In 1921 the name was changed to the Katholieke Unie van arbeiders, burgers, middenstanders s landbouwers ( the Union of Catholic Workers, citizens, farmers and artisans party).

1936, the Union suffered a severe defeat; the Catholic Union ( Katholieke Unie ) went on ( Katholieke Blok ) in the Catholic block.

Period after 1945

After the Second World War, the integration took place in the 18-19. August Founded in 1945 Christelijke Volkspartij CVP ( Christian Democratic Party), the aufteilte later in the Flemish Christelijke Volkspartij (CVP ) and the Parti Social Chrétien counterpart (PSC ) in the French -speaking Belgium.

2001 modified CVP ( Christelijke Volkspartij ) changed its name to CD & V ( Christian - Democratisch en Vlaams ). It was only the third strongest party in Belgium at the federal elections of 2003. It was in 2004 but the largest party in Flanders. Yves Leterme became the new Flemish Minister - President.

After the 2007 election put the CD & V with Yves Leterme after nine months of political crisis from March to December 2008, Prime Minister in a coalition of five. Yves Leterme resigned after becoming aware of an influence on judges in the Fortis affair back. As of 30 December 2008, the former chamber chairman was Prime Minister in the House of Representatives Herman Van Rompuy. After he was designated However, on 19 November 2009 as the first permanent President of the European Council, he resigned as Prime Minister on 25 November 2009 down due to incompatibility. On the same day, Yves Leterme was again appointed Prime Minister and has since been pursuing his second federal government.

After the election of 2009, the Flemish CD & V was again the largest party in Flanders. Kris Peeters, the Flemish Minister - President was the since 2007, was re- Minister - President.

Chairman of the CD & V was 2008-2010 Marianne Thyssen. On June 23, 2010, she appeared as a result of the defeat of the CD & V back in the federal elections of 13 June 2010 by the party leadership. Wouter Beke was elected on 22 December 2010 as the new chairman, after he had already taken over as acting the post after the resignation Thyssen.

2012 there was municipal elections in Belgium. The CD & V could remain the largest local party.

Sister parties

In Belgium, the CD & V is a sister party of the CDH and the CSP. Other major Christian Democrat EPP members in Europe, the CDU and the CSU in Germany, the CSV in Luxembourg and the CDA in the Netherlands.
