Colo-Colo

Club Social y Deportivo Colo -Colo is a football club based in the Chilean capital Santiago de Chile. With 30 national championships, he is the most successful club sports in the country. Highlight of the club's history was winning the South American club championship, the Copa Libertadores 1991.

History

Colo -Colo went from a spin-off of Magallanes, the third oldest football club in Chile, produced and was formally established on 19 April 1925. The colors of the club are black and white. The name of the club comes from the Mapuche chief Colo -Colo. Whether the generally white play clothes often refer to the club as Los Albos.

The club plays since the establishment of the first Chilean league in 1933 continuously in the highest league. Colo -Colo won in 1937 under player-manager Arturo Torres, who previously with Magallanes won three league titles, undefeated his first championship. In 1941, under the Hungarian coach Ferenc Plattkó, under whose direction Colo -Colo in several tenures 1939-1953 a total of four titles won another championship without defeat. Since then, the club established, now with around 30 titles as record champion of the country. 1991 won Colo-Colo as so far the only club from Chile Copa Libertadores. In the finals against Club Olimpia of the Paraguayan capital Asunción Colo -Colo kept with 0-0 and 3-0 the upper hand. In 1973 came Colo-Colo before the finals, but lost after two draws in the playoff in Montevideo beaten against the record winner CA Independiente in Buenos Aires 1-2.

Many famous Chilean footballers played for Colo -Colo before they were sold abroad. Former players found and are found mainly in the leagues of Spain, England, Italy and Portugal, including Iván Zamorano, who played for Real Madrid and Inter Milan, and currently for Sporting Lisbon accruing Matias Fernandez and " Mago " Valdivia at the São Paulo FC.
