Cormaranche-en-Bugey

Cormaranche -en- Bugey is a commune in the French department of Ain ​​, in the Rhône -Alpes.

Geography

Cormaranche -en- Bugey is located 840 meters above sea level. M., two miles south of Hauteville- Lompnes and about 20 kilometers east of the city Ambérieu -en- Bugey (air line). This former farm extends in the central Bugey, a slight increase on the eastern edge of a broad valley of the high Jura, which belongs to the Plateau d' Hauteville, at the foot of the plan agate.

History

Based on the finds of pottery fragments and tools, it is assumed that the area of Cormaranche has been inhabited since the 4th century. First mentioned, however, the place is only in the year 1055 under the name Cormarinca. Over time, the spelling on Cormarenchi ( 1142 ), Cormarenchia ( 1146 ) and Cormarenche (1670 ) transformed to the present name Cormaranche. Order (also in the Department of Ain ) to avoid confusion with the almost identically worded place names Cormoranche -sur -Saône, in 1920 the official name Cormaranche -en- Bugey has been introduced.

Since the 11th century, the area of Cormaranche belonged to the monastery of Saint- Sulpice. The sovereignty over the territory was up to the Counts of Savoy. The Treaty of Lyon Cormaranche arrived in 1601 to France.

Attractions

The present parish church Saint -Martin was built in 1827 and 1835 in a mixture of stylistic forms of Neo-Romanesque and Gothic Revival. It has three naves and an octagonal bell tower. The community house dates from 1846 and was first used as a school house.

Population

With 828 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Cormaranche -en- Bugey is one of the small communities of the department of Ain. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1881 or 670 persons were counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Cormaranche -en- Bugey was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture and forestry village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises.
