Curtis Leschyshyn

Curtis Michael Leschyshyn ( born September 21, 1969 in Thompson, Manitoba ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who from 1988 to 2004 in over 1000 games for the Quebec Nordiques, Colorado Avalanche, Washington Capitals, Hartford Whalers, Carolina Hurricanes, Minnesota Wild and Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League was active as a defender.

Career

Curtis Leschyshyn played two full seasons with the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League before he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1988 in the first round of the third overall position of the Quebec Nordiques. For the Nordiques he advanced in his first season as a professional for a regular player in the National Hockey League. At the beginning of the NHL season 1995/96 drew the franchise to Denver in the State of Colorado and changed his name to Colorado Avalanche. In the very first season in their new home Leschyshyn was together with his team win the Stanley Cup.

After a total of nine seasons for the Quebec / Colorado organization of the defenders was transferred on 2 November 1996 with Chris Simon to the Washington Capitals, the Avalanche received in return winger Keith Jones as well as one first and fourth round draft pick for the NHL Entry Draft 1998. For the Capitals of Canadians but completed only two games before he was transferred again a week after his arrival. Washington sent to the Hartford Whalers Leschyshyn and received striker Andrei Nikolischin. After a season in Hartford, he experienced another move of a hockey franchise; the Whalers settled in Raleigh, North Carolina and were before the start of the 1997/98 season to the Carolina Hurricanes.

After three more seasons for the Canes Curtis Leschyshyn Expansion Draft was selected in 2000 by the Minnesota Wild in the NHL, where he completed 54 games before it on 13 March 2001 in exchange for a third round draft pick for the NHL Entry Draft in 2001 to the Ottawa Senators was sent.

After three more seasons in Ottawa and the lockout during the 2004/ 05 NHL season, the player signed on 17 August 2005 a contract with the Colorado Avalanche; the franchise, where he began his NHL career 17 years ago .. In Colorado, the defender but not a completed game, as he stated during the preseason that his physical condition was no longer sufficient for the NHL. On 3 October 2005 Curtis Leschyshyn announced end of his career.
