Defenders of the Faith (English for " defender of the faith" ) is the ninth studio album by the British heavy metal band Judas Priest. The album was released on January 4th, 1984 by Columbia Records.

Formation

The album was recorded with Tom Allom in Ibiza Sound Studios on the Spanish island of Ibiza. Remixed it was from September to November 1983 in the DB Recording Studios and Bayshore Recording Studios in Coconut Grove, Miami, Florida. The CD version was released in July 1984. A remastered CD was released in 2001.

On the back of the album cover reads: Rising from darkness where Hell hath no mercy and the screams for vengeance echo on forever. Only Those Who keep the faith Shall escape the wrath of the Metallian ... Master of all metal. The Metallian is the fighting machine pictured on the front of the album.

Reception

Steve Huey of Allmusic wrote the album counted on the most underrated albums in the Judas -Priest catalog. He forgave 4 of 5 stars. The editors of the magazine Rock Hard chose the 2007 album on the 31st place their 500 albums comprehensive leaderboard. Andreas Himmelstein called only " rather unspectacular " play by Dave Holland as a weak point. Otherwise, the disk is undervalued as hardly Songs " throughout this superb album in live program " of the band befänden.

The album reached # 18 on the Billboard 200 The Sentinel was covered by Machine Head Unto The Locust on.
