Origin and Meaning

Dennis is a common first name in Scotland and the USA, that of Dionysus, the Greek god of wine and fertility, is derived. For the distribution of the name of the holy Dionysius of Paris wore (French: St. Denis ) in which (later Paris) came in the 3rd century as a missionary to Lutetia and is considered the first bishop of the city. He is the patron saint of Paris and one of the 14 Holy Helpers.

Through the movie Dennis ( Dennis the Menace ) of 1993 and the same U.S. sitcom ( 1959-1963 ), dating back to an American cartoon character, the name in Germany was even more popular.
