Dmitri Yushkevich

Dmitry Sergeyevich Yushkevich (Russian Дмитрий Сергеевич Юшкевич; born November 19, 1971 in Cherepovets ) is a former Russian ice hockey player who was active throughout his career, among other things for the Philadelphia Flyers and Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League. Since end of his career working as a hockey coach and Yushkevich since December 2011 head coach of HK Sibir Novosibirsk.

Career

Earlier in his career played for Torpedo Yaroslavl Yushkevich and HK Dynamo Moscow. NHL Entry Draft 1991, he was selected in the sixth round to 122 location by the Philadelphia Flyers. In 1992 he moved to the Flyers in the National Hockey League. Further stations of his career in the NHL were Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers and Los Angeles Kings. For the season 2003/ 04 he moved back to Russia and played for his old club Torpedo Yaroslavl, he spent the next season in his native city at Severstal Cherepovets, but in 2005 /06 he moved on to Metallurg Magnitogorsk. The 2006/07 season he stood by SKA St. Petersburg under contract.

Between November 2009 and April 2010 he stood at Oulu Kärpät from the SM- liiga under contract before he finished his career.

Internationally

On November 2, 1990, he made ​​his debut for the team of the Soviet national ice hockey team. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, he was the first member of the United team and afterwards the Russian national ice hockey team. His international career was crowned with the gold medal at the Olympic Winter Games in 1992 and silver medal in 1998. He was awarded the Honored Master of Sports in 1992.

As a coach

Since end of his career working as a hockey coach and Yushkevich was initially from 2010 assistant coach of Andrei Tarasenko at HK Sibir Novosibirsk. After under-performing at the beginning of the 2011/12 season Tarasenko was dismissed and Yushkevich promoted in December 2011 to head coach.

At the World Championships in 2012, he oversaw the Russian national team as assistant coach and won the gold medal. He subsequently left the HK Sibir and was assistant coach Tom Rowe to Lokomotiv Yaroslavl.
