Staffan Kronwall

Staffan Kronwall ( born September 10, 1982 in Järfälla ) is a Swedish professional ice hockey player who is since May 2012 to Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the Kontinental Hockey League contract. His older brother Niklas plays for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League.

Career

Staffan Kronwall began his career as a hockey player in his native Sweden at Huddinge IK, before he was active for Djurgårdens IF in the Elitserien 2002-2005. He also played in the 2004/ 05 three times for their league rivals Brynäs IF. Previously, the defender was already selected in the NHL Entry Draft in the ninth round in 2002 when a total of 285 players from the Toronto Maple Leafs. Kronwall, who was from 2005 to 2008 with the Toronto Maple Leafs under contract, was mainly used in their farm team in the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.

After Kronwall was active only for the Marlies in the AHL during the 2008/ 09 season, he was taken on February 6, 2009 by the Washington Capitals under contract. In the following years he was mostly in the Capitals farm team, the Hershey Bears in the AHL for use.

In the summer of 2009 he was engaged by the Calgary Flames, where he graduated from eleven games in the NHL, but otherwise at the Abbotsford Heat in the AHL went on the ice. After he received a regular place in the NHL at the start of the 2010/11 season, he returned on 12 October 2010 back to Djurgårdens IF.

In April 2011, he was taken from Severstal Cherepovets of the Kontinental Hockey League contract. A year later he moved to within the KHL Lokomotiv Yaroslavl.

Internationally

For Sweden Kronwall took part in the Junior World Championship in 2002. At the World Championships in 2013 in Stockholm and Helsinki, he was again part of the national team and won the gold medal with this.
