Dolph Schayes

Adolph " Dolph " Schayes ( born May 19, 1928 in New York City ) is a retired American professional basketball player and coach.

Between 1949 and 1964 he played in the NBA for the crew of the Syracuse Nationals / Philadelphia 76ers, with whom he won the 1955 championship. Schayes is 2.02 meters tall and played on the position of power forward. He finished his career with over 18,000 points scored than then best scorer in the NBA history. Schayes was six times during his career in the All- NBA First Team appointed (1952, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1957, 1958). In addition, he has been nominated twelve times for an NBA All-Star Game in his career. After he finished his career, he coached two years, the Philadelphia 76ers. With 55 victories, he was in the NBA season 1965/66 Coach of the Year. After the season, he stopped as coach and was replaced by Alex Hannum.

Schayes, who is a Jew, changed his first name from " Adolph " to " Dolph ". On April 26, 1976, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

His son Danny Schayes is also a basketball player.
