Dubovka, Dubovsky District, Volgograd Oblast

Dubowka (Russian Дубовка ) is a town with 14,347 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) in the Volgograd Oblast in Russia. It is located 52 km northeast of Volgograd, on the right bank of the Volga. The nearest town is Wolschski, about 30 km as the crow flies.

History

The village was founded in 1732 as a fortress; the name comes from Dubowka According to tradition, a nearby oak forest (dub = Russian for " oak "). Initially lived here especially Cossacks, but many of them were expelled for taking part in the failed rebellion of Pugachev farmer here in 1771. The city status was given Dubowka in 1803, but he lost it again later and was only in 1925 again city. Since it is also the administrative center of a Rajons same name.

Economy and infrastructure

Being the capital city Dubowka has no outstanding significance to this day; in the city there are only a few food establishments, a carpet factory as well as smaller companies in the woodworking and metalworking.
