Geography

Geographical location

Dürnau located on the edge of the Swabian Alb, about ten kilometers south of the county town of Göppingen. The highest point is located to the south on the border between the municipality Gruibingen Köpfle and Kornberg. The lowest point is north of the border to the municipality Heiningen.

Neighboring communities

The municipality borders in the north on Göppingen and Hein Ingen, to the east by Gammelshausen, to the south and to the west by Gruibingen Bad Boll.

History

The emergence Dürnaus expected to fall into the recent expansion of the 9th to 13th century. The place was first mentioned as Durnon 1275 liber decimationis. The low noble family of the Dürner of Dürnau rose from 13th to 15th century, probably as Ministeriale in the service of the Counts of Aichelberglifte. 1339 Dürnau was part of Württemberg. 1479 Count Ulrich sold the place to the Lords of Zille Hardt. After the extinction of the last Lord of Zille Hardt in 1623, the village fell to the Counts of sword box. 1684 the site was sold to the Electorate of Bavaria. 1711 acquired the sword field returns the first one in 1771 the other half.
