E8 European long distance path

European Route E8 is part of the European long-distance hiking trails and runs currently still from Dursey Head in Ireland to Istanbul in Turkey. In the future it should be uniformly marked on the entire route through walkable, and above all things. Its total length is then approximately 4390 km.

Created and well marked so far are the lines in Ireland, England, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Slovakia.

Route

In Ireland, the European long-distance hiking trail runs through E8 Cahersiveen, Glenbeigh, The Black Valley, Loo Bridge, Millstreet, Glenaknockane, Mallow, Fermoy, Clogheen, Clonmel, Piltown, Inistioge, Borris, Clonegal, Tinahely, Aughavannagh, Laragh, Knockree and Dublin.

In England, the European long-distance hiking trail runs through E8 Liverpool, Widnes, Altrincham, Stockport, Hadfield, Penistone, Dearne, Braithwaite, Selby, Blacktoft and Hull.

In the Netherlands, the European long distance path runs through E8 Rotterdam Europoort, Maassluis, Overschie, Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel, Kadijk, Ameide, Leerdam, Buurmalsen, Echteld, Hemmen, Nijmegen and Wyler.

The E8 crossed Germany from north-west to south-east. Here, he moves at the beginning of the Dutch border, on the western side of the Rhine, away. At Worms the E8 then crossed the Rhine to cross the mountain range of the Odenwald. Then the E8 follows in a section of the Main to Wertheim. There leaves the E8 the Main and runs from now on the course of the river Tauber to Rothenburg. From there he gets into a south-easterly direction to the Altmühltherme to get to their mouth in Kelheim on the Danube. From there, the road runs partly together with the predicate Goldsteig hiking trail on the banks of the Danube to Passau.

In Austria, the European long-distance hiking trail runs E8 in an easterly direction always between the Danube in the south and the Czech border in the north.

The Slovak stretch of 739 km. The E8 in Slovakia runs largely parallel to the trail to commemorate the Slovak National Uprising ( Slovenské národné povstanie, SNP). This runs along the main ridge of the Low Tatras.

The Slovak part of the European long-distance route E8 can be divided into different sections. The section can be overridden with the title Donauauen, runs from Vienna to Bratislava. Of the approximately 69 kilometers runs through most of Austria. Slovakia enters the road at the border crossing mountain on the Danube. About the Lafranconi bridge the road passes to Bratislava. In this area, the European long distance path E4 parallel.

The second section in Slovakia through the low mountains of the Little and White Carpathian Mountains and is approximately 149 kilometers. The path leads along the crest of the Little Carpathians, reaching the Záruby up to 767 m. Next you get past the monument to the national hero Milan Rastislav Stefanik Slovak on the mountain ( Bradlo ), the city Brezová pod Bradlom. Through the city Myjava gets the path to the White Carpathians. On this ridge trail, the path passes briefly to the Czech Republic and on the highest mountain of the White Carpathians, the Velka Javorina with 970 m. The section ends in Nové Mesto nad Váhom where good train connections are available in the whole Slovakia.

The third section of the European trail E8 runs over the mountain range Inowetzgebirge, Strážovské hills and Lesser Fatra and is about 169 km long; the fourth section in Slovakia passes over the crest of the mountains Velka Fatra and Low Tatras and is about 138 kilometers long. This section runs along the ridge path of the Low Tatras and makes station on the peaks of the Dumbier and Chopok.

The fifth section extends over the mountains of the Slovak Ore Mountains and the Čergov, passes through the cities of Košice, Prešov and Bardejov. It is about 203 km long and the last section of the European long-distance route E8 runs through the Beskids. The road of about 262 km to the Ukrainian border runs largely through Poland.

The European trail E8 reached at Duklapass Poland. It crosses the lower ones or the Bieszczady, passes through the cities and village Dukla, Iwonicz- Zdrój, Bukowsko Komańcza, Cisna, Ustrzyki Górne and Wołosate. It is about 122 km long. At the Polish- Ukrainian border ends the signs of the way.

Future History

In the future a more extensive signage is planned to Turkey. The European E8 trail should be routed via the Ukrainian Carpathians, the Romanian Eastern Carpathians over Brasov and the Southern Carpathians in the Bulgarian capital Sofia.

From Sofia to the Turkish border of E8 may have recourse to the existing trail system Südbulgariens. On this 400 km long section of the route passes through the Rila Mountains and the Bulgarian part of the Rhodope Mountains. After the Rila monastery of the European trail E8 reached by Musala ( 2925m ) the highest point of its entire route. In Svilengrad in the triangle Bulgaria - Turkey-Greece currently ends of the path.

In the future, the E8 also pass through the Turkish eastern Thrace, and end on the Bosporus.
