Edward Davey

Edward "Ed" Jonathan Davey ( born December 25, 1965 in Annesley Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire ) is a British politician of the Liberal Democrats, of the constituency of Kingston and Surbiton in the House of Commons representing since 1997 and since February 2012 Minister for Energy and Climate Change in the Cabinet Cameron.

Life

Study, party official and deputy House

After visiting the Nottingham High School Davey began in 1984 a study of the combination of subjects Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Jesus College, University of Oxford, where he graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA PPE). After 1989 he was economic researcher at the party headquarters of the Liberal Democrats and graduated next to a postgraduate degree in economics at Birkbeck College, University of London, which he finished with a Master of Science (M.Sc. Econ. ). He then worked for several years as a management consultant at Omega Partners.

Davey, chairman of the calculation group of Liberal Democrats for the general election in 1992 and 1997, between 1994 and 1995 was also a member of Politikauschusses his party and the group for the economy, taxes, profits and traffic.

In the general election on 1 May 1997 Davey was first elected as a candidate of the Liberal Democrats as a member of the House of Commons and is representing the constituency since Kingston and Surbiton. He was last re-elected at the general election on 6 May 2010 with 49.65 percent of the vote.

During his long parliamentary membership was initially between 1997 and 2000 Whip and his group at the same time to 1999, spokesman for Treasurer affairs, public spending and taxes, and then to 2001 for economic and next between 2000 and 2003 Group spokesman for London. At the same time he was between 1997 and 2001, various committees of the House, namely 1997 to 2000 of the Committee of procedures, and 1999-2001 of the Finance Committee.

He was first appointed to the shadow cabinet of his party in 2001 and was initially Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, and then between 2002 and 2005 spokesperson for the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. After he was Shadow Minister for Education and Skills and in 2006 for a short time Shadow Minister for Trade and Industry then, he served between 2006 and 2007 as Chief of Staff of Menzies Campbell, leader of the Liberal Democrats. Thereafter he served until 2010 as Shadow Minister for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of Nations. He was also temporarily a member of the Association of Liberal Democratic elected officials and between 2006 and 2009 Chairman of the election campaign and Communications Committee of his party.

Cabinet Member

After the general election on 6 May 2010 Davey was appointed after the formation of the coalition government between the Conservative Party and Liberal Democrats to the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Enterprise, Innovation and Skills and was responsible for employment relations, consumer and postal services.

On 3 February 2012, was energy minister Chris Huhne announced his retirement. This was the accusation that his wife had responsibility for a speeding offense taken, he is said to have committed itself. On the same day was indicted Huhne and Davey as his successor vo Prime Minister David Cameron appointed the new Minister of Energy and Climate Change.

A few days after taking office, he opened on 9 February 2012 officially the offshore wind farm Walney.
